Purpose : Adding a Team category will help to increase interest in Root 66 racing and provide a team element to a generally individual sport. The intent is to create a scoring system that is easy to use for Root 66 and reward the fastest team & the team with the highest participation. This category will be the sum of individual team members points earned during the season and is not a race category by itself.

Team Competition rules:

Each team may have no more than 15 registered members at any one time. A team must present a finalized roster to mtbracer@comcast.net before the 3rd race of the season this year (Brialee). Teams will have the opportunity the change their roster after the halfway point of the season (after Putney). Team points can only be earned for points earned in a XC race, not short track or marathon races this year. There will be two team competition categories: Fastest Team and Team Participation .

Fastest Team Competition:

1.) Of those potential 15 riders, the top 5 point scores from all categories will count towards the team category.

2.) Per race category (Beginner, Sport, Expert, Semi-Pro/Pro) a team may only have a maximum of 3 scores count. A team can race as many riders as desired in a race category but only three will have the potential of counting towards the team points standings.

3) Scoring for teams will be different than points earned as an individual towards the series championship. The intent is to reward riders who place well in more difficult classes but not to create a system where riders in lower classes have no chance of contributing to the team totals. The point breakdown for TEAM SCORING is as follows:

Place

Beginner (-10)

Sport (equal to individual points earned)

Expert (+10)

Semi Pro / Pro (+15)

4.) Here are two examples to clarify how the scoring will work:

A.) Team A raced 10 riders at an event. 6 of them were Expert, 2 Sport, 1 Beginner, and 1 Semi-Pro. They all placed as follows:

Expert: 1st = 70 team points Expert: 9th= 46

Expert: 8th= 47 Sport: 1st= 60

Expert: 5th= 53 Sport: 5th= 43

Expert: 2nd=65 Beginner: 1st= 50

Expert 3rd=60 Semi-Pro:9th= 51

Based upon the rules ( only the top 5 scores regardless of category count towards the team total for a given race & only 3 scores per race category can count towards team scoring ), this team would receive points for the: Expert 1st, Expert 2nd, Expert 3rd, Sport 1st, and semi pro 9th. None of the other scores would count for the team total.

B.) Team B raced 6 riders at a given event. One Sport, one Semi-pro, 3 Expert, and one Beginner. They placed as follows:

Expert: 1st=70 team points Sport: 4th= 46

Expert: 5th=53 Semi Pro: 6th= 56

Expert: 3rd=60 Beginner: 1st= 50

The top 5 scores would include all of the Expert scores, the semi pro, and the Beginner. The Sport score would not count towards the team total for that event.

5.) After each race, the point scores for each team member will be reviewed to determine the top five finishers. These results will be placed under a team category on the website. Team results will not be posted the day of the race at a specific event due to time constraints. Each team's score for a particular event will be e-mailed to a team contact person for review to ensure fairness.

6) Each team will pay a one time fee of $35 per team. This will cover the cost of the team trophy at the end of the season. Only the winning team will presented with the trophy.

7.) In the event of a tie at the end of the season, the following tie breaker procedures will be invoked:

In the case of a tie on total points, the tie will be broken in the favor of the team that has:

  • The most first place finishes by Men's and Women's Pro/ Semi Pro or, if still tied, the most second place finishes by Men's and Women's Pro/ Semi Pro; the most 3rd place finishes by Men's and Women's Pro/ Semi-Pro, or if still tied;
  • The most first place finishes by Men's and Women's Expert or, if still tied, the most second place finishes by Men's and Women's Expert; the most 3 rd place finishes by Men's and Women's Expert, or if still tied:
  • The most first place finishes by Men's and Women's Sport or, if still tied, the most second place finishes by Men's and Women's Sport; the most 3rd place finishes by Men's and Women's Sport, or if still tied:
  • The most first place finishes by Men's and Women's Beginner or, if still tied, the most second place finishes by Men's and Women's Beginner; the most 3rd place finishes by Men's and Women's Beginner.

Team Participation Competition:

  1. A second trophy will be presented to the team that has the most riders participate over the course of the season. A team will receive 1 point for each rider that participates at any Root 66 event (XC only, not short track or marathon). This is separate from the fastest team competition and only reflects participation. At the end of the season, the team with the most participation points will receive a team trophy
  2. Team Participation results will also be posted on the Root 66 website. The idea with this category is to reward and encourage all team members who race during the season. This will give every team rider the opportunity to contribute to the standings regardless of their finish/ points earned at a given race.
  3. A team will not enroll in one competition or the other but will simply pay the $35 fee to compete as a team for the season and will earn points in both team competition categories.
